The Studio’s Letter
|
Welcome to the first issue of the Studio Journal The past year has been full. Between getting married and navigating what can only be described as a beautifully chaotic season, the studio has been quietly evolving. Behind the scenes, we have refined our vision, strengthened our foundations, and shaped what this next chapter could become. We have been working on major projects across Australia and South Africa, spanning paintings, sculptural works, and a great deal of travel, steadily establishing ourselves as an international art studio. Moving between countries has been stretching, but deeply rewarding. There is something powerful about watching a concept move from sketch to studio to installation, and finally settle into architecture and landscape. As this momentum builds, the studio also opened a limited amount of commissions for 2026. These are not off the shelf pieces, but works carefully shaped for collectors who want something personal and enduring. These pieces are developed through a deliberate and immersive design process and it’s something we are so excited to share. There is a great deal ahead. Some of it feels bold. Some of it feels slightly terrifying in the best way. Mostly, it feels like the right time. So if you are here, thank you. We look forward to sharing more of the process, the projects, the travel, and the honest behind the scenes moments. And so it begins… With Love, The Robertsons

What began as a simple consultation for an artwork, bloomed into a series of paintings, a suspended glass installation and a custom scent created exclusively for the residence. Over months of design development, material exploration, and coordination across continents, the project is becoming a fully integrated body of work. Not just art for a home, but art woven into the way the home feels, moves, and lives.

South Africa holds a unique place in our hearts. It is where Charisse grew up, and returning there to create feels profoundly personal. It has become an experience that words can barely capture. At the same time, Australia is home. It shaped who Kurt is today and the early years of ROBERTSONKUR. Here, the landscapes, the love for horses and wildlife, the years of working in design and architecture, and the faith that forms the foundation of the studio all came together. As we move between the two countries, we are increasingly aware that the studio carries both histories. No matter where a project lives, that grounding remains the same. Our work lives in the space between these two worlds, where inspiration, memory, and creativity
