The Studio Letter

Dear collector,

There is a garden at the centre of everything we make. This month, we are inviting you into it.

On the first of December, The Bloom Capsules arrive: eight handmade originals, each one of one, each set within a timber frame built for it alone. They began with a wish to see the peony garden in a new way, closer than before, close enough to get lost in the details and to see every stage of its becoming.

In the pages below, you will find the story behind them. How sumi ink and painted canvas, so different in nature, learned to sit side by side. How a garden mirrors our own seasons of waiting, showing and letting go. And why we believe the truest luxury is time, care and the hours no one sees.

Somewhere in the making, we came to see that we are not inventing so much as repeating the way we came to be. The gardener was a seed first. That thought runs through every piece.

We hope you will read slowly, and that you will find a little of your own story in the garden. Registration is open, and those who register will receive early access before the collection is released to everyone else.

With love from the studio.

Eight Blooms, Held

On the first of December, The Bloom Capsules arrive.

This collection began with a wish to see the peony garden in a new way.

We wanted work that would draw you in close. Rather than stepping back to view the garden from the outside, we invite you to stop and rest within it. Our hope is that you will get lost in the details and linger over each stage of its becoming. From bud to bloom, from flourishing to falling away, every stage is its own small world, and each one reflects the garden as a whole.

Think of a time capsule, buried in the garden in a box of timber. A bloom capsule is much the same: a moment kept safe in the earth it came from. Each of our frames is built from timber, and within it, a piece of the garden is kept.

We gathered two materials, each with its own way of moving. Sumi ink, bleeding softly at its edges, spilling slowly across the page. Painted canvas in full colour, rich and deep and unafraid. We didn’t know how they would sit together. Could the free-flowing run of ink rest beside the structure of paint? They met like old companions, each making the other more itself.

What emerged is a collection of eight, held in contrast: softness against edge, like a flower wrapped in thorns. Beauty that has known the thorn, and grace that kept growing anyway.

Every bloom deserved a home, so each piece rests in a frame made for it alone. No two are the same. The frame does not simply hold the work; it carries it onward, the way a stem holds a bloom to the light. Some hold their pieces close and tight. Others leave room to breathe.

These are The Bloom Capsules. Eight handmade originals, each one of one, released exclusively online. Our first collected works, and the first glimpse of the Peony Garden Collection.

The Garden Mirrored

How far are we from the garden?

Plant a peony and wait. For a season, nothing. Then a red shoot breaks the soil, a bud closes around itself like a fist, and one morning it lets go. A few days of glory, then the petals fall and the earth takes them back.

Sound familiar?

The garden keeps our calendar. It has its seasons of waiting and its seasons of showing. It has thorns, pruning and frost, blooms that arrive too early and blooms that come late and are worth every day. What falls becomes what feeds. We have never stood outside it looking in. We are the thing it describes.

Every garden begins with a gardener, and every gardener began as something planted. We arrived already held, already shaped, and only then were we given hands. So when we lift a brush, set a stem or build a frame, we are not inventing so much as repeating the way we came to be. A creation, tending a creation. The gardener was a seed first.

Maker and made. Planting and being planted. The peony garden is our portrait, painted slowly, one stage at a time, in ink and colour and timber.

We were never only visitors here. We are in the soil, in the bloom, in the falling away, still being tended by the hands that planted us. What we make, we make from what was made in us.

Slow Luxury

We live in a world of fast. Fast made, fast bought, fast forgotten. In the studio, we like to slow things down.

Luxury was never the price tag. It is the time taken to make something well, and the care given to it. It is the desire to create something that exists only once, made by someone who meant every moment of it.

Each ROBERTSONKUR piece is made by hand. When you hold one, you hold a brushstroke that will never fall the same way again.

A garden is no different. You cannot hurry a bloom. You prepare the soil, you plant, you wait, you prune what needs to go. Some seasons ask you to cut hard and trust that something is still alive beneath the surface. The Bloom Capsules carry that story: of being pulled up by the roots and finding ground again, of turning the soil one season at a time.

We hope they come to hold a part of your story too. Your waiting. Your own first green shoot.

That is the luxury we believe in. The love, and the hours no one sees.

Grown, not rushed. Made by hand, and made on purpose.
