Compassion

Compassion holds a defining place in the early history of ROBERTSONKUR. As the second artwork to be acquired, it became the first major work that affirmed Kurt Robertson’s artistic path, transforming what had begun as a personal pursuit into the real possibility of a lasting creative career. The placement of this work marked a moment of clarity within the studio, revealing that the visual language being explored carried something distinctive and meaningful for collectors. Created during the global crisis of COVID-19, the painting emerged in a time when much of the world was experiencing profound isolation. Lockdowns created an unusual stillness, and within that quiet space Kurt Robertson turned deeply toward the studio. Compassion became one of only four artworks produced during this period, each reflecting the introspection and emotional weight that defined those months. The work also represents a turning point in how the Kurt shared the creative process. Compassion was the first artwork fully documented on social media, allowing audiences to witness the development of the piece from beginning to completion. The response was immediate and significant, drawing thousands of new followers and introducing the emerging vision of ROBERTSONKUR to a much wider audience. Within the archives, Compassion is remembered not only as an early acquisition but as the work that helped transform an emerging practice into a recognised artistic debut. In a moment when the world had slowed and many felt distant from one another, the painting quietly marked the beginning of a growing community around the work and the first clear sign that something unique had begun to take shape within the studio. |
