Sea of Peonies
|
Sea of Peonies is a study in repetition and immersion within the Peony Garden body of work. The composition extends the peony beyond a singular subject, transforming it into an expansive field where form, rhythm, and pattern take precedence. Through layered repetition, the flower becomes a continuous surface—an uninterrupted field that reads like a visual textile. This work explores the Peony Garden as an environment rather than an isolated motif. Each bloom contributes to a larger whole, forming a seamless “blanket” of floral structure that dissolves individual detail into collective presence. The result is a quiet abstraction of nature, where the viewer is drawn into a world defined by continuity, softness, and scale. Created during the global crisis of COVID-19, Sea of Peonies is one of four works produced in this period. Within the isolation and stillness of lockdown, the studio became a contained world of exploration, where repetition and floral form offered a sense of rhythm and focus amid uncertainty. Within the ROBERTSONKUR archive, Sea of Peonies represents an early articulation of the Peony language as environment, an initial step toward building a fully immersive floral world. |
