Where Petals Drift
|
Waar Blomme Dryf (Where Petals Drift) marks the first sculptural work produced by the ROBERTSONKUR Studio. Commissioned for a private collector’s residence in the Winelands of South Africa, the suspended installation spans approximately five by three metres and forms a floating field of glass petals. The work interprets the structural language of the peony through abstraction, exploring movement, suspension, and spatial composition. Developed through a series of sketches and spatial studies, the sculpture was realised in collaboration with glassblower David Reed. Individual glass vessels were formed and cut into petals, each retaining subtle variation. Suspended within the architectural volume of the room, the installation interacts with light throughout the day. Natural light refracts across the glass surface, while focused evening lighting casts shifting reflections and shadows across the surrounding space. |
